"Would You Rather" activities are one of my favorite activities to use in speech therapy because they are silly and funny, which usually means that my students are highly engaged!
They can be used to work on a variety of language skills such as:
Answering Wh-Questions
Exanding Vocabulary
Explaining Skills
Describing Skills
Turn Taking Skills
Theory of Mind Skills
Sentence Structure...
During my speech therapy sessions, I like to use thematic "Would you Rather" activities because they're an easy and effective way of engaging my students beyond a simple yes/no answer, and thematic means greater vocabulary development and semantic comprehension.
To get students to expand on their answer, whether it be verbally, or by writing their answers, I use a "Why" visual prompt.
It's also a great activity to do with students that have autism since it can help with flexibility of thought, turn taking in conversation, conversational skills, and perspective taking.
They can also be used :
As icebreakers
As a writing prompt
To facilitate discussion
As a debate topic
To help build critical thinking skills
In individual teaching sessions
In individual therapy sessions
In small groups
With the whole classroom
